Conan the Barbarian, a literary icon whose pop-culture imprint can only be compared to such icons as Tarzan of the Apes, Count Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, and James Bond. Lancer Books initially numbered its volumes in order of publication, switching to a chronological numbering for volumes published later and reprints of the earlier volumes. Howard is a grammatical portrait of Dorian Grey, and all those adjectives and adverbs that all those writers cut from their books made their way into Howard's. Lancer went out of business before bringing out the entire series, and publication was completed by Ace Books. They're fun enough to read, etabs 9.7.2 if you don't mind the purple prose but the treatment of women and the casual racism do raise a sour note.

Those who know Conan only through the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies may be surprised by what they read here. Seriously, Conan looks like his shoulders are hunched way too far forward and I don't know what the heck is going on with his feet. This is the set of stories full of atmosphere with a greatly crafted world and heroes, a story that can be recommended to every fan of such genre.
